The French Trip 2010
Thursday 1st July to Tuesday 6th July 2010
I'm planning another scooter run to France in 2010.
Itinerary
Thursday 1st July
Steady ride down to Portsmouth. We'd have all day with time for plenty of stops if required. The ferry sails from Portsmouth harbour at 8pm and arrives in St Malo at around 8.15am the following morning. This means there is plenty of time to relax, get a meal, a few bevvies, take in the entertainment before getting you head down in a cabin.
Friday 2nd July
Ride to the famous Mont St Michel about 30 miles away along the coast road. We'll spend up to a couple of hours here. Real photo opportunity. Sightseeing and browsing. Then its about 80 miles across the cross country through some very picturesque locations until finally through Bayeux and down to Arromanches. (Mulberry Harbour)
Saturday 3rd July
Local sightseeing run. This could include numerous D Day sites including Pegasus Bridge, the beaches, the best of the museums, battlefield sites like Point du Hoc or for a change the medieval town of Bayeux with its famous tapestry depicting another invasion in 1066. Coastal ride to Deauville and Honfleur and the Pont de Normandie the massive bridge over to the Seine to La Havre
Sunday 4th July
Local sightseeing run.(see above)
Monday 5th July
Ride north, visiting the US cemetery above Omaha beach, the famous town of St Mere Eglise where the paratrooper still hangs from the church tower. Coastal gun battery with their gun still in place. Arrive at our overnight accommodation near Cherbourg.
Tuesday 6th July
Board the high speed ferry back to Portsmouth arriving back at around 12.30pm and a steady ride home.
Accommodation
The accommodation in Arromanches is a converted farm house and out buildings in the town. (visit www.normandybeach.co.uk ). It's run by an English couple who specialise in catering for enthusiasts and biker groups. They are aware of how the French restaurants and bars can knock a big hole in your holiday budget so the provide a traditional English breakfast. They also offer access to their magic fridge. It never runs out of beer and a small contribution ensures this. They have barbecue facilities and they'll give us access to their kitchen. For nominal fee they'll even knock up a stew or curry for the evening.
I currently have an option on 5 rooms until the end of November. A locational for our overnight on Monday 5th July will be confirmed in the next couple of weeks.
Costs
Brittanny Ferries ? outbound ? Portsmouth to St Malo 1.7.10 with cabin (2 sharing) including scooters then inbound ? Cherbourg to Portsmouth ? 6.7.10 ? Total = £115.00 per person. It is possible to get it down to around £104.00 with four sharing a four birth cabin but...........
Rooms at Arromanches are 60 euros per night. Each can sleep as least 2 so for four nights so we'd be looking at no more than £120.00 per person for the four nights.
So there we are. If you're interested or you want more information contact me on 07798583839 or stevecraig@blueyonder.co.uk . I have to make a firm booking by the end of November. This accommodation is very popular. Confirmation would a confirmed ferry booking. Lets have some fun!!
